THE EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT REQUIREMENT FOR THIS SITE IS TWENTY-ONE. This means that whether you're a deceptive twelve year old or fifty-something, if you’re acting like a child you’ll be asked to leave. We’re not here to baby-sit or be punching bags for your insecurities.
1.
THE EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT REQUIREMENT FOR THIS SITE IS TWENTY-ONE. Basically, don't be a dick, eh.
NO EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT! NO SADISM! NO MASOCHISM! Even though there are people running around wearing skin-tight costumes THIS IS NOT A PORN SITE. There is no ADULT AREA. Any situations that lead up to a graphic sexual encounter will FADE TO BLACK. In situations where a character might be ‘suggestive’, please use your best judgement. Just keep it in your pants 'cause nobody wants to see it here.
RESPECT and be PATIENT with your fellow members. DRAMA is simply NOT tolerated here. You get ONE WARNING, after that you will automatically be banned.
DO NOT FOLLOW THE COMMON RULES OF ROLE-PLAYING. Yeah, you heard correctly. The most painful part of COLLABORATIVE WRITING is getting your hands slapped if you manipulate another writer’s character. Here it is NOT the responsibility of the writer REPLYING TO YOUR POST, it is YOUR responsibility to properly FORESHADOW and DEPICT the action of the story so that your fellow writer can make the best INTERPRETATION. The standard rules that people follow clearly absolve the preceding-poster of all responsibility, when in fact, all onus should fall upon them and not the other way around. If you are unable to adequately portray what your character(s) are doing then it’s YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to contact the other writer(s) and explain. Otherwise the RULE is that the ‘RESPONDER’ will do their best to INTERPRET and continue the sequence of events as you have either started or continued them. Writers here are COMPLETELY in their RIGHT to manipulate your original character in order to MAINTAIN THE FLUIDITY OF THE STORY. This may mean that another writer puts your’s in a comprising position. So what? This is not just ROLE PLAYING we are also WRITING a story. Write yourself out of the situation. It’s the unforeseen perils that make collaborative writing fun.
DON’T HAPHAZARDLY GUESS. If you have NO IDEA AT ALL what you’re writing partner is doing, you’re going have to put on the brakes and hash things out. It’s not worth the aggrevation. On that note, as per RULE 4, we all have to provide enough information in our posts to provide others with avenues to follow. If you’re consistently sending people around BLIND CORNERS and down DEAD END alleys you’re either making your partner(s) write the story (keeping you in tow) or you're all writing your own separate versions of events that are loosely moving in a similar direction. Not exactly a collaborative effort.
CANONS. They’re meant for everyone to use. Unless you’re solely portraying a canon character in a story, ANY MEMBER participating in the story can interact with them, and manipulate them so long as they’re fairly certain of their fellow writer’s intentions. Now, sometimes a writer comes along that totally kicks ass in depicting certain canon and we have absolutely no problem with good writing creating a monopoly, just remember that no canon is exclusively owned by any one member.
This is a WRITING SITE. If you’re used to writing SHORT RESPONSES which are entirely REACTIONARY you’re probably not a good fit for a COLLABORATIVE WRITING SITE. We understand that lengths can vary based on the situation but you should not be consistently posting under a 300 word count. We also require that people use PROPER sentence structure, use SPELLCHECK and are able to write in THIRD PERSON. FIRST PERSON should only be used in those situations where a character is specifically referring to themselves.
ACTIVITY. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball. What can you do? If you haven’t provided forewarning of your absence you have TWO WEEKS to respond to a story your fellow writer(s) are allowed to continue without you. They must, however, write your character(s), keep them in the story, or appropriately write them out. Characters JUST DON’T BLINK IN AND OUT OF EXISTENCE. If and when that writer has returned they can catch up and resume their role(s) if they so choose. Once again this is NOT A ROLE-PLAYING SITE. We are writing stories and character ownership is counter productive to creativity.
PLEASE set up your PROFILE, PLOTTER and THREAD TRACKER links in your profile. It is a polite convenience for your fellow writers. Thank you.
POLITICS and RELIGION. These are powerful themes and for most people a large part of who they are, so it's not off limits here. We do have to state, however, that this site stands by the FACTS that Nazi's are racist bastards, that the holocaust occurred, and that fundamentalism is fanatical. We believe in multiculturalism, gay-rights, equality and feminism. Stories that pander to ultra right wing or by contrast ultra left wing views will be deleted and the writer banned from the site. This is DOES NOT cater to propaganda.
Note that the main antagonists of our theme are based on POLITICAL CORRUPTION (Lex Luthor in the tradition of Nixonesque treachery) and NAZI SUPREMACY (The Red Skull). These popular Marvel plot-vehicles are derived from World War II era politics and are considered evil and corrupt.
POSTING ORDER. We all know how to stay in line, but let’s face it, we’re not children (at least you shouldn’t be on this site), and sometimes you need to post out of order especially if you’re playing the role of the antagonist. So, if someone posts out of order, they’re doing it for good reason and just resume the established order by skipping over the character(s) of the inserted post, unless otherwise discussed. It’s more about maintaining continuity than time in the spotlight. If someone accidentally posts out of an established order, suffer in silence, deal with it and don't be a self-righteous douchebag.
DATE, TIME, SEASON, THE WEATHER. The setting of a story is important, as is the time it takes place. Please ensure that your story DOES NOT exist in timeless limbo. Is it raining? Snowing? Is it night or day? These shouldn't be questions that a participant in your story need ask.
DON’T HESITATE TO CONTACT A STAFF MEMBER. It’s never a bother, well, if you’re sending ten private messages a day, then yeah, it is. Everything within moderation. Just contact NITE OWL if you need a sub-forum, canon added to the site, a question answered, some important tidbit of information included to the lore or anything else. Thank you.
THE RULES
Swearing and mature language is permitted.
Mild sexual innuendo and references permitted.
Explicit violence is permitted. (NOT EXTREME, which opens the door to full descriptive torture and sadism.)
